The Division of Cardiovascular Surgery at The Hospital for Sick Children is internationally recognized for its contributions to advancing clinical care and the field of academic medicine.  We are inviting applications for two full-time Cardiovascular Surgeons with start dates in Spring 2020. A Division with a track record of success, the Division is comprised of five academic Pediatric Surgeons. Clinical activity is supported by Pediatric Cardiovascular surgical Fellows and Residents on rotation. The Division of Cardiovascular Surgery operates as a component of the Labatt Family Heart Centre, which includes Cardiology, Cardiac Surgery, Cardiac Intensive Care and Cardiac Research.

The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), located at 555 University Avenue in downtown Toronto, is among the largest children’s hospitals in North America and has a long history of excellence in clinical care, research and education. SickKids is fully affiliated with the University of Toronto and is located adjacent to the University campus and to numerous specialty hospitals and biomedical research institutes. It is an exciting time at SickKids as we execute our campus redevelopment project, including a new state-of-the-art acute care hospital tower.

A Cardiovascular Surgeon with a special interest in Adult Congenital Heart Disease, the successful candidate will have a strong background in pediatric and congenital heart surgery and is expected to complement the Division’s clinical, education and research productivity. The candidate should have an expertise in Congenital Heart Surgery and should be an established academic cardiovascular surgeon with an international reputation. Experience with thoracic transplantation and mechanical assist is essential. A candidate with specific interest in adult congenital heart disease (ACHD) will be prioritized. The successful appointee will have a dual appointment at the Toronto General Hospital located at 200 Elizabeth St. for delivery of the ACHD program.

A Cardiovascular Surgeon with a strong research interest, the successful candidate will have a strong background in pediatric and congenital heart surgery and is expected to complement the Division’s clinical, education and research productivity. The candidate should have an expertise in Congenital Heart Surgery and should be an established academic cardiovascular surgeon with a strong research interest. Experience with thoracic transplantation and mechanical assist is desirable. A candidate with evidence of committed research activity will be prioritized. The successful appointee will have a dual appointment at Toronto General Hospital located at 200 Elizabeth St. for contribution to the Adult Congenital Heart Surgery program.

The successful candidates will have the opportunity to work with multi-disciplinary and basic science facilities that are available on the Hospital campus, including the 21-storey Research Institute, the MaRS Discovery District and the University of Toronto’s Department of Surgery.

Candidates must be able to function proficiently in English and hold an M.D., MBBS or equivalent; must also be eligible for appointment at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor at the University of Toronto; must be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Candidates must obtain an appropriate Visa if applicable.

Commensurate with qualifications and experience, we are offering a competitive compensation package in the range of $400,000 and $600,000 CDN (35 hours per week) funded through the Alternate Funding Plan arrangement with the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care (MoHLTC) that values academic contributions and protected time for research, along with support for relocation expenses.
