Assistant Professor, The Department of Medical Genetics

The Department of Medical Genetics, within the Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia (UBC) and the BC Cancer Research Centre (BC Cancer) invite applications for a full time (1.0 FTE) faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, tenure track. The successful applicant will also hold a concurrent appointment as a Scientist at BC Cancer, Genome Sciences Centre (GSC).

We are seeking an interdisciplinary researcher qualified to develop a research program in the fields of human genomics and computational biology, with a specific interest in developing novel algorithmic and machine learning approaches to study cancer biology and their application to precision medicine. The candidate will work closely with the cancer genomic programs existing at BC Cancer and will have the opportunity to develop and deploy integrative data analysis methods using large DNA sequence datasets of germline and somatic variations, epigenetic profiles, gene expression patterns and protein abundance measurements, with linkage to the clinical records and associated complex disease traits.

Candidates for this position must hold a PhD or MD/PhD degree, awarded within the past 10 years, or equivalent, with postdoctoral research experience. The incumbent will show demonstrated ability to achieve excellence in teaching, and will be expected to participate in the undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate teaching activities of the Department of Medical Genetics in their field of expertise. The incumbent will also show demonstrated ability in scholarly activity, and will be expected to provide service to the University and the broader academic and professional community. In addition, the incumbent will have demonstrated research skills and potential for excellence in the areas of machine learning and other advanced algorithmic approaches for application in cancer genomics, complex disease genomics, or genotype-phenotype linkage. As a faculty member within the Department of Medical Genetics and a Scientist at BC Cancer, the successful applicant will be expected to develop a vibrant, externally-funded and exceptional research program with international norms, supervise graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, collaborate with other faculty members, and participate in service to the Department, Research Center, University, and the academic/scientific community.
