Inpatient Child Psychiatrist

Organization – The Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) in Ottawa, Ontario is seeking a child psychiatrist to join their multidisciplinary Acute Care Inpatient Mental Health Unit, which specializes in the acute inpatient care of children and adolescents with mental health problems.

Term - This is a permanent, full-time position.

Duties –

The work involves - Psychiatric assessments and brief treatment of children and youth with a variety of psychiatric disorders. - Diagnose and treat diseases and physiological or psychiatric disorders - Order laboratory tests other diagnostic procedures - Prescribe medication and treatment and refer patients to other physicians/allied health professionals as required - Act as consultants to other physicians - May conduct medical research. The position of Medical Director of the inpatient unit may be available for qualified applicants.

Required Skills – The successful candidate will have had training and/or experience in child and adolescent psychiatry, with Royal College certification or an equivalent. Inpatient experience as an attending physician is preferred. Some administrative experience will be required for the Medical Director position.

Required education/training – MD from an accredited institution; Royal College Certification in Psychiatry or equivalent; child psychiatry experience, training, or certification from the Royal College or equivalent body; must meet criteria for an academic appointment in Psychiatry at the local University's Faculty of Medicine.

Location – Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario - 401 Smyth Rd, Ottawa, ON K1H 8L1

Language – Advanced English language ability is mandatory. Bilingual – French/English – considered an asset. We also provide French-language training opportunities.

Wage – Base remuneration is $260,000 per year, but can be as high as $325,000 per year with added remuneration based on academic and clinical productivity or stipends for academic duties;
