Neil McKenzie Endowed Chair in Cardiac Care
The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry and the Division of Cardiology in the Department of Medicine at Western University is seeking an innovative cardiologist/clinician scientist of international standing in cardiology. We invite applications from outstanding scientists with exceptional mentoring records and sustained, high levels of research productivity to apply. This Chair will position Western's Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry at the forefront of cardiac research, ultimately improving outcomes for patients requiring cardiac diagnoses and treatment. The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry at Western University is internationally known for its formidable strengths in cardiovascular-related research. Qualified applicants must hold an MD or MD/PhD and have a demonstrated record of outstanding research and publications in the Cardiology realm.
The successful candidate will take a leadership role as the Neil McKenzie Endowed Chair in Cardiac Care in the Division of Cardiology with experience in quality improvement, clinical trials or translational research. Applicants must have demonstrated the ability to attract peer-reviewed research grants and publish in the highest quality academic and subspecialty peer-reviewed journals and be a nationally and internationally recognized expert in their field of research. In addition, candidates will be expected to commit a minimum of 60% of their time for research.
The LHSC Cardiac Care Program is the largest and the most established cardiac centre in Southwestern Ontario. All members of the Division are actively involved in providing inpatient and ambulatory cardiac care, providing a full range of ambulatory clinics and diagnostic cardiac services to the City of London and a population of over one million in the surrounding region.
The successful candidate will hold an MD or MD/PhD and be eligible for licensure in the Province of Ontario in accordance with the appropriate licensing body and must be certified, or eligible for certification as a member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Compensation will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and composed primarily of the following sources: fee for service, alternate funding plan, and academic support. The successful candidate will hold a Limited Term Clinical Academic appointment normally at the rank of Associate Professor, or a Continuing Clinical Academic appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, depending on qualifications and experience. The candidate will be appointed in the Division of Cardiology in the Department of Medicine at Schulich Medicine & Dentistry with a potential cross appointment in a relevant department.
The Division of Cardiology has over 30 full time faculty members, 20 full and part time graduate students and 2 staff. It is a division of the Department of Medicine, one of 21 departments in Schulich Medicine & Dentistry (http://www.schulich.uwo.ca) The Division of Cardiology at Western University is affiliated with London Health Sciences Centre, one of Canada’s largest acute care teaching hospitals and St Joseph’s Health Care London. The Division provides the following services and procedures: cardiac catheterization and percutaneous coronary intervention; structural heart disease procedures; advanced heart failure management and cardiac transplantation; full cardiac consultation services; adult congenital heart disease and pregnancy management; cardiac rehabilitation; cardiac electrophysiology/arrhythmia management, including pacemaker, ICD, CRT and ablation procedures for ventricular and supra-ventricular arrhythmias; full non-invasive cardiac diagnostic services including ECG, ambulatory monitoring, stress testing, echocardiography and advanced cardiac imaging.
