Neurologist - Stroke Specialist

The Department of Clinical Neurological Sciences at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry and the London Health Sciences Centre is seeking a full-time Stroke Neurologist to join our busy stroke service. The candidate will fill a clinical academic role as a Clinician Researcher at Western University. Applicants should be certified, or eligible for certification, in Neurology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or equivalent. Candidates must have an MD, or equivalent, and must be eligible for licensure in the province of Ontario. The successful candidate will hold a limited term clinical academic appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor.

The Department of Clinical Neurological Sciences is comprised of 36 Neurologists and 12 Neurosurgeons and is the single tertiary referral centre for Southwestern Ontario. The Department provides provide secondary, tertiary and quaternary services to a patient population of 1.8 million, but its referral base extends beyond the region to include areas in northern Ontario and a significant portion from the Niagara region – increasing this referral base to 3.5 million.  London is the Regional Stroke Center for Southwestern Ontario and has a busy acute stroke and endovascular thrombectomy service.

The successful candidate will have a record of proven ability for research and will have completed at least two years of fellowship training in cerebrovascular disease, a minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in unsupervised complex stroke management in an academic environment in North America or internationally. Additionally, candidates will have formal research training at a minimum of a Master’s degree in Clinical Epidemiology/Biostatistics or Public Health, and will have at least one year of experience in the organization of stroke systems of care.  Candidates will be expected to highly productive; to collaborate with other colleagues specialized in stroke medicine within the Department; and to generate national and international research collaborations.  The successful candidate is expected to be a contributing member of the Stroke Program. Clinical work will include the Urgent TIA Clinic, Stroke Consults, Inpatient Stroke Service and Stroke/General Neurology Call, including night time and weekend coverage.

Compensation will be based on qualifications and experience and will be composed primarily of the following sources: fee for service, alternative funding plan and academic support.
