Division of Medical Oncology and Hematology (DMOH)

University Health Network and University of Toronto

The Faculty of Medicine, Department of Medicine, University of Toronto’s Division of Medical Oncology and Hematology at the University Health Network is seeking to recruit energetic and innovative physicians with expertise in Medical Oncology to assist in a new Acute Oncology Unit opening shortly at the Toronto General Hospital.  Through close collaboration between the Division of Medical Oncology and Hematology, and the Division of General Internal Medicine, the University Health Network is looking to transform the care of cancer patients across their disease trajectory.  The anticipated start date is January 1, 2020, or shortly thereafter.

The successful applicants will participate in both inpatient and outpatient aspects of clinical care.  Inpatient rotations would include time as the attending physician to cancer inpatients at the Toronto General Hospital (and/or the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.)  Outpatient experiences would include the Urgent Care Clinic, which currently supports outpatient clinics in the management of acute medical issues at Princess Margaret, and the Procedure Clinic, where a variety of procedures such as lumbar punctures are provided.

As our program for oncology patient management at the Toronto General Hospital is rapidly expanding, the Medical Oncologists will provide leadership in improving our current programs as well as creating new programs in areas of clinical need.

The Division of Medical Oncology and Hematology at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre is the largest such program in Canada, and is among the largest in North America. Comprised of about seventy-five senior physicians, the program is supported by outstanding institutional infrastructure, pathology, medical imaging, molecular diagnostics and clinical genomics programs and, by a wide medical and allied-health multidisciplinary team. The program supports extensive clinical, translational, and basic research initiatives including a large clinical trials program. Additionally, the Division of Medical Oncology and Hematology supports a comprehensive training program attracting both national and international fellows.

The successful applicants will have demonstrated passion for the medical care of cancer patients as well as a strong interest in teaching and/or quality improvement.

Successful candidates must be eligible for a full time clinical academic appointment at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor.  It is expected that candidates will be hired into the University of Toronto Clinician Teacher or Clinician Quality Improvement tracks.  Applicants must also be eligible for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and hold MD and FRCPC qualifications as well as Medical Oncology (or equivalent) specialist designation.  A highly attractive remuneration package is available and commensurate with academic rank, qualifications and experience.
