Facility Details — Kelowna General Hospital:

Kelowna General Hospital (KGH) is one of two tertiary hospitals within Interior Health and is the region’s main referral center offering a full range of services with approximately 400 beds and over 84,000 ED visits yearly. Kelowna General Hospital is home to the Interior Heart & Surgical Centre (IHSC) which opened in 2015 and is BC’s only cardiac critical care centre outside of Victoria and the Lower Mainland. IHSC is Kelowna General Hospital’s principal surgical site and features; 12 specialized Operating Rooms created for Thoracic, Urology, Neurosurgery, Vascular, Plastics, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Ears Nose and Throat, Orthopedics, General and Trauma surgeries with 2 ORs dedicated to Cardiac Surgery. Our state of the art Centennial Building also recently opened and boasts a total of 360,000 square feet, an expanded emergency and ambulatory care department, modern operating rooms and a rooftop helipad. KGH is also a teaching centre for the Southern Medical Program affiliated with UBC. With the state-of-the-art Interior Heart & Surgical Centre and new medical inpatient units in the Centennial Building, dedicated psychiatry units for youth and adults, a modern maternity ward, enhanced laboratory and clinical departments in the new Dr. Walter Anderson Building, and an academic campus that serves as a satellite for the University of British Columbia Medical School, KGH has become one of BC’s leading healthcare centres.

Practice Details:

KGH is an innovator in medical care, research and teaching, and service delivery. In our commitment to supporting healthy lives we are opening 2 additional ORs. As a result of this expansion we are now looking for a Cardiac Anesthesiologist to join our full team of 30 Anesthesiologists.

Our group provides a full service tertiary referral service to patients located in a geographical area larger than France. We pride ourselves on being a supportive group who provide the highest quality of care in a complex high acuity environment. This position has a specialized focus in all aspects of cardiac anesthesia, including transesophageal echocardiography. Our group is involved in ~600 heart cases per year with an average of 12 cases per week, we also support the cardiac ICU.

In general we request anyone interested in working with us to locum for a satisfactory period so both sides can evaluate if there is a good fit. All department members must be fellows of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada in Anesthesiology, meet the requirements for privileging with our hospital and be able to fulfill call requirements.

KGH is also a teaching hospital academically affiliated with the University of British Columbia’s Southern Medical Program. As part of your new role you will have the opportunity to teach medical students and residents and make an impact in education and research in the community.

Qualifications:

  • Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC)
  • Doctorate in Medicine
  • Anaesthesia experience
  • Eligible for licensure with CPSBC
  • Postgraduate fellowship training in Cardiac Anesthesia
  • Training in transesophageal echocardiography
  • Coverage with the Canadian Medical Protective Association is mandatory.
