Eastern Health is the largest integrated health authority in Newfoundland and Labrador. It provides the full continuum of health services to a regional population of more than 300,000, and is responsible for a number of unique provincial and regional programs, including Cancer Care, Cardiac and Critical Care , Children and Women’s Health , Diagnostic Imaging, Medicine, Laboratory Services, Mental Health and Addictions, Rehabilitation and Surgery. Eastern Health has over 13,000 health care and support services professionals who believe in providing the best quality of care and health service delivery in our region, and in the province. Eastern Health extends west from St. John's to Port Blandford, and includes all communities on the Avalon, Burin and Bonavista Peninsulas. Accountable to the President and CEO, and working in a co-leadership model of Directors and Clinical Chiefs, the Vice President Medical Services will provide leadership on strategic and operational issues, ensuring optimum efficiency and effectiveness, while supporting the overall standards, policies and direction of Eastern Health. The Vice President, Medical Services takes responsibility for implementing an effective quality and safety program within their portfolio including Medical Services and clinical programs. As a member of the Executive Management Team, the Vice President, Medical Services provides advice to the President and CEO, and is accountable for providing leadership, vision and direction to the organization. In addition, the Vice President Medical Services represents the Executive Team in communities served by the organization and liaises with local, Provincial and Federal government leaders, service organizations, Memorial University Medical School, and other key stakeholders.


Bringing to the organization a solid business acumen, outstanding communication and problem solving skills to this critical role, the Vice President is a respected leader who understands the regional dynamics and requirements of Eastern Health and collaborates and interacts positively in partnerships with the Board and all internal and external stakeholders.


The successful candidate will be a licensed physician, and eligible for licensure in the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador, and ideally possesses additional leadership credentials such as an MBA or MHA or equivalent. The Certified Health Executive designation would be considered an asset. In addition, the successful candidate should possess significant progressive responsible leadership experience within a large and complex multi-site organization, ideally within a health authority setting. The ideal candidate will have a reputation for a collaborative leadership style, inspiring others to execute on a bold organizational vision and as a skilled networker and collaborator, they have extensively engaged with colleagues both provincially and nationally.
