Population and Public Health at the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) provides leadership for advancing surveillance capacity in non-communicable diseases, injuries, risk and protective factors and a program resource for environmental health at the BCCDC. 

The Public Health Physician and Medical Director at the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) will provide expert consultation to physicians and other public health staff to effect improved public health best practice and population health outcomes through policy advice and knowledge. They will assist in the investigation, evaluation and resolution of clinical situations which may pose a threat to human health.  Provide medical/technical consultation and advice to the BCCDC, Ministry of Health Services, Medical Health Officers, Regional Health Authorities, First Nations Health Authority, the Public Health Laboratory and other British Columbia ministries and agencies as required. Participate in national public health forums and groups as required.

The Public Health Physician and Medical Director Population and Public Health is accountable  to the Chief Operating Officer for the strategic development, implementation, evaluation and budget of the Population and Public Health core service areas including Population Health Surveillance, Healthy Built Environment, Injury Prevention, Food Security, Healthy Eating Programs, and Healthy Communities, and Healthy Schools.

This position requires a Medical Doctor degree with current licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia in Public health and Preventive Medicine; or current licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia and Community Medicine designation (FRCP(C)). The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of successfully managing population health analyses, communication and policy development and translating population health policy to practice.

The candidate is expected to possess strong communication population health and health equity principles and measures. Demonstrate commitment to the principles of the Truth and Reconciliation process. Demonstrate ability and experience in knowledge translation and in production and publication of scientific reports and peer-reviewed articles. Possess broad knowledge of the Canadian health care system is an asset. Have the ability to read, review and interpret technical and scientific reports
