Inaugural Scientific Director, Centre for Complex Interventions, CAMH
CAMH is seeking an internationally recognized scientist to be the Inaugural Scientific Director for the new Centre for Complex Interventions. In partnership with scientists, clinicians, patients and families, and external partners, the Scientific Director will be responsible for establishing a Research Centre whose mission will be to design and evaluate novel approaches to health system interventions. The Scientific Director will be responsible for leading this start-up venture by promoting, optimizing, and transforming mental health services interventions research. The Scientific Director will also hold an academic appointment at the University of Toronto.
Key leadership initiatives for the Scientific Director will be to:
- Launch and evolve the Centre for Complex Interventions through building a first of its kind research program that fosters a collaborative environment and supports health services interventions research.
- Build and nurture meaningful partnerships with key stakeholders within CAMH and abroad including the research community, patients and families, health system partners, academia, and private sector partners by encouraging collaboration, knowledge exchange, and actionable planning.
- Advance CAMH’s scientists’ work, ensuring that it is aligned with CAMH’s mission, strategic directions and can be applied at CAMH and/or across the mental health continuum.
Term of Employment
This is a full-time permanent role and remuneration is in accordance with the compensation of a psychiatrist in the province of Ontario (a guaranteed income [of approximately $310,000 a year] / [ranging from $285,000–$335,000 a year] with the opportunity to earn an additional fee for service earnings ranging between approx. $9,000 - $85,000 per year; 6 weeks of vacation; other benefits not included). This position is located at 1001 Queen Street West, Toronto, ON, M6J 1H4.

The ideal candidate will be a leader in health system interventions research and have a distinguished track record of successful research leadership and scholarship, including a strong peer-reviewed publication record and research activities with local, regional, national, and international practitioners and policymakers and competitive research grant funding. With experience in advancing health services interventions research, the successful candidate will have an MD and Ph.D. and be eligible for (or currently have) an academic appointment at the University of Toronto at the rank of Associate or Full Professor or equivalent. As an outstanding research leader committed to health system performance and innovation, the successful candidate will also be an exceptional relationship developer capable of inspiring teams, peers, and stakeholders. A demonstrated ability to partner in an invigorating, evolving, pioneering organization/environment is a definite asset.
