Shared Health, The Department of Pediatrics and Child Health at Max Rady College of Medicine,  Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, and The University of Manitoba are inviting applications for a temporary full-time Specialty Physician - Medical Geneticist.

The Genetics and Metabolism Program provides services to over 5,000 Manitoba patients annually through clinics and in-patient consultations covering all aspects or genetics care including general genetics, prenatal diagnosis, metabolic disease, and cancer. The program offers a unique and exciting academic environment. The Medical Genetics Training Program is fully accredited by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Our center is also accredited by the Canadian College of Medical Geneticists for training in Molecular Genetics and Cytogenetics as well as Clinical Biochemical Genetics.

The Program has close collaboration with the basic science Department of Biochemistry and Medical Genetics at the University of Manitoba, providing ample research opportunities. An accredited Graduate Program for Genetic Counseling has been established with the Department of Biochemistry and Medical Genetics, Max Rady College of Medicine, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Manitoba.   Main job duties include diagnose and treatment of diseases, prescribing medications and treatment, attending ambulatory clinics (2 – ½ day clinics/week, providing on-call coverage for Genetics Medical Services, providing in-hospital consultations, supervising genetics counsellors and medical researchers, which duties encompass 90% of the position.

The successful candidate would also be eligible for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, and appointed as a geographical member of the Max Rady College of Medicine, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Manitoba, which job duties encompass 10% of the position.   Job duties are required in English.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate must hold a Doctor of Medicine Degree with Certification in either Medical Genetics by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or in Clinical Biochemical Genetics by the Canadian College of Medical Geneticists. Candidates with equivalent training will also be considered. Applicants must be eligible for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba.  The successful candidate, depending on interests and expertise, will primarily work in the clinical realm but can expect flexibility with respect to amount of protected time for research. Minimum of 5 years of experience required.

Compensation:

Compensation is derived from fee for service income with an additional $82,707/annum Specialty Physicians may also be eligible for a recruitment incentive.  Please contact [email protected] for further information.
