THORACIC SURGEON – St. Joseph’s Toronto

Unity Health (St. Joseph’s Site), Toronto, in conjunction with the University of Toronto, is seeking a Thoracic Surgeon.

The position will be based at St. Joseph’s Health Centre, a fully accredited community teaching hospital within the Unity Health Toronto network, serving Toronto’s west-end. St. Joseph’s Thoracic Surgery program is a Level-1 Designated Thoracic Centre of Excellence as per Cancer Care Ontario with approximately 250 major lung cancer resections performed per year. The program also provides surgical treatment of other thoracic and esophagogastric diseases, both benign and malignant. The successful candidate will join two other thoracic surgeons and take 1 in 3 thoracic surgery on-call.

St. Joseph’s provides care to a culturally and economically diverse population of about 530,000.  Our hospital is a 400-bed facility that employs approximately 2,500 staff, along with 400 credentialed staff physicians. The successful candidate will be expected to have completed or be eligible for certification in Thoracic Surgery from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. The successful candidate will have experience and skill in the multidisciplinary management of benign and malignant thoracic conditions. The successful candidate would be expected to be proficient in Minimally Invasive Thoracic Surgery, including minimally invasive esophagectomy and thymectomy. Candidates will be expected to show evidence of exceptional interpersonal and collaborative skills with initiative to further advance the clinical, teaching, and academic productivity of the Thoracic Surgery division at St. Joseph’s Health Centre. A commitment and demonstrated interest in surgical education at all levels is essential and they will be eligible for an appointment in the Department of Surgery at the University of Toronto at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor, commensurate with their qualification and academic achievement. The successful candidate will be expected to participate and excel in the educational supervision of our medical students, residents and fellows, and contribute to scholarly activities of our Thoracic Surgery Division at Unity Health.
