Staff Surgeon – Acute Care Surgery

Applications are invited for one or two positions in the Division of General Surgery in the Department of Surgery at Unity Heath Toronto – St. Joseph’s Health Centre.  St. Joseph’s Health Centre is a fully accredited community teaching hospital within the Unity Health Toronto network.  Unity Health Toronto is Canada’s largest Catholic Academic Health Sciences System and is affiliated with the University of Toronto. 

Employing approximately 2500 staff, along with 400 Credentialed Staff physicians serving approximately 400 beds, St. Joseph’s provides primary, secondary and selected tertiary services to the West Toronto region. The preferred candidate will be a general surgeon with a specialized interest in Acute Care Surgery.  Preference will be given to candidates who also have a fellowship in academic ACS (or equivalent). The candidate will advance the strategic goals of the Hospital and of the University through a commitment to compassionate care to all in need.  The ideal candidate will have demonstrated a commitment to safety, clinical effectiveness, quality improvement and the patient experience.  The candidate is expected to possess exemplary clinical skills and a demonstrated commitment to life-long learning, and to demonstrate exceptional professionalism, interpersonal and collaboration skills.  The candidate will be required to support the academic mission of Unity Health Toronto – St. Joseph’s Health Centre through a commitment to the training of medical students, residents and fellows within the department of Surgery.

The successful candidate must hold a Fellowship in General Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada (or its equivalent) as well as hold, or be eligible for an independent practice license from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.  The ideal candidate will be eligible for an appointment in the Department of Surgery at the University of Toronto at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor, commensurate with their qualifications and academic achievement.

The effective date of this appointment is July 1st, 2020, or shortly thereafter.
