Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation

McMaster University and  Hamilton Health Sciences seeks a leader in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation to join the Integrated Cancer Rehabilitation Team at our center.  The position is best suited for those who have experience in Neuro rehabilitation /General rehabilitation.  The successful candidate will enjoy a clinic located in the hospital, inpatient consultation on the oncology acute care ward, and outreach in the community based Canwell Program and the community based day hospital.

Join a group of  highly skilled and motivated physiatrists and nurse practitioners. This unique position is available due to the upcoming retirement of the current Medical Director of the Integrated Cancer Rehabilitation Program.

The inpatient responsibilities will be shared with one of the partners and has support from the Nurse Practitioner, with concurrent care from the oncologist who is on site,  as well as a wide range of other specialties at the Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre.  McMaster University and Hamilton Health Sciences culture is one of physician leadership and local decision making; this affords us the distinction of outstanding physician satisfaction and patient satisfaction scores.

The group is interested in generating new knowledge and provides support for development of guidelines and research related to the effects of cancer and its treatment on function and QOL.

Experience with electrodiagnosis and especially electrodiagnosis related to cancer impairments would be welcomed.

About the Integrated Cancer Rehabilitation Program at McMaster University and Hamilton Health Sciences:
The Integrated Cancer Rehabilitation program  was developed in 2000, and has always envisioned that cancer survivors should be able to access rehabilitation services from the time of diagnosis through the full course of their treatment and survival.

In order to accomplish this we have an integrated system of outpatient consultation, inpatient consultation, inpatient cancer rehabilitation beds, wellness programs through association with the local YMCA and outreach to local communities through a day hospital service. Our inpatient service is integrated with the Juravinski Cancer Center with oncologists from the cancer center across the tunnel providing concurrent care to our inpatients.

This is the longest functioning full service cancer rehabilitation program in Canada.

The successful candidate would be part of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Hamilton Health Sciences and The Division of Physical Medicine and Rehabiltation and Department of Medicine at McMaster University. The Division supports a robust residency program and teaching of residents in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and medical Students from the McMaster DeGroote School of Medicine is required.
