Position Profile:  The Division of Paediatric Surgery at Western University is seeking a new Chair/Chief to lead the Division forward into the next phase of its growth. With 18 surgeons drawn from eight surgical subspecialties, the Division is a cohesive and collegial group of surgeons, passionate and dedicated to excellence in the surgical care of children. The Chair/Chief has the exciting opportunity to shape the future direction of the group with opportunities for new faculty recruitment. The position will hold a Full-time Limited Term Clinical Academic appointment at the rank of Associate Professor, or a Continuing Clinical Academic appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Full Professor, depending upon experience and qualifications at the time of appointment. The Division of Paediatric Surgery is a part of the Department of Surgery, is affiliated with London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph’s Health Care London, and serves patients from across Southwest Ontario.

Academic and Clinical Expectations:  The successful candidate must have leadership and administrative skills and experience; including interacting with a multidisciplinary team of individuals.  The candidate will be involved in all aspects of patient care, with a clinical focus on quality in the paediatric peri-operative and operative environment.

The successful candidate must be interested in pursuing a strong academic leadership career and will be expected to participate actively in the Division’s academic, research, and education initiatives. Applicants must be nationally or internationally recognized experts in their field and/or demonstrate the ability to publish in the highest quality academic and subspecialty outlets.

Qualifications:  The successful candidate must have an MD or equivalent; have completed an accredited paediatric surgery training program; have received (or are eligible for) a Certificate of Special competence from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent); have a strong academic interest; and be eligible for licensure in the Province of Ontario. 

Compensation Details:  Compensation for this position will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and will be primarily composed of the following sources: Fee for service (OHIP billings) or Alternative Payment Plan, Alternative Funding Plan, administrative leadership stipend; and academic salary.
