Facility Details — Penticton Regional Hospital:

The Penticton Regional Hospital (PRH) is a 155-bed Acute Care facility in the Okanagan Health Service Area and responsible for providing core medical and surgical specialty services to surrounding population of approximately 90,000 people.

PRH offers 24-hour Emergency and Trauma Services, Acute Services, Ambulatory and Out-patient Clinics, and Diagnostic/Paramedical Services.

As a regional facility and secondary referral centre for the South Okanagan and Similkameen Valley, you will be joining an excellent complement of medical and surgical specialists. Excellent radiology availability with on site Computed Tomography (CT) and part time Medical Resonance Imaging (MRI). PRH has a seven-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

PRH also serves as the referral base for hematology/transfusion medicine for the smaller local hospitals in Oliver and Princeton.

In April 2019 PRH opened phase one of its new, state of the art Patient Care Tower. The Patient Care Tower includes a brand new ambulatory care centre, surgical services center, 84 medical/surgical inpatients beds in single patient rooms, a new medical device reprocessing unit and space for the UBC Faculty of Medicine Program. Phase two is now underway and will involve the renovation in the current hospital to allow the expansion of the emergency department four times its current size.

Fantastic opportunity for a FRCPC Respirologist/ General Internist to join a dynamic and collegial team at Penticton Regional Hospital. Serious applicants will be expected to do a locum before receiving an offer to allow time to meet and work with the larger Internal Medicine team and familiarize yourself with Penticton’s Medical Community.

In this position you will join three other Respirologists who do Community Respirology for a catchment area of over 90 000. One in three weeks you will provide inpatient/hospital coverage seeing all hospital based Respirology consults between 0800 and 1700 and urgent outpatient Respirology consults; performing procedures for the practice such as bronchoscopies and thoracentesis and read the PFTs performed in our level 4 laboratory. During the hospital based weeks, you will be expected to participate in the GIM Call schedule and must be comfortable with all aspects of GIM including providing care to ICU patients (call coverage would average 1-2 day per hospital based week). On the alternate two weeks, you will work in the community doing outpatient general respirology and follow up of any GIM patients seen in hospital. There is no sleep laboratory associated with our hospital but there is access to private sleep clinics within the community. We seek a dynamic innovative candidate who is comfortable handling both Respirology and ICU/General Medicine patients and wants to be a part of a great team moving into a brand new hospital.

 

You will have the opportunity to be actively involved with the University of British Columbia’s Southern Medical Program, teaching and mentoring both Internal Medicine and Family Medicine Residents. Qualifications:

  • Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC)
  • Doctorate in Medicine
  • Eligible for licensure with CPSBC; Coverage with the Canadian Medical Protective Association is mandatory

Call Schedule:

  • Hours of work: Full time
  • On call requirements: 2-3 24hr GIM call shifts/month

Compensation:

    • + Level 1 MOCAP for GIM Call
