ACADEMIC POSITION: Body Imaging Radiologist
Academic and Clinical Environment: The City Wide Department of Medical Imaging (www.schulich.uwo.ca/medimaging) has clinical activities based at London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) (www.lhsc.on.ca) and at St Joseph’s Health Care London (www.sjhc.london.on.ca); with research activities based in the Lawson Research Institute (www.lawsonresearch.ca) and at the Robarts Research Institute (www.robarts.ca). LHSC has two acute care academic campuses; University Hospital and Victoria Hospital. The academic training program is Royal College accredited and provides medical imaging education at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels at Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry, Western University.
The faculty consists of 56 Radiologists, 6 Nuclear Medicine physicians and 10 Imaging Scientists providing a subspecialty imaging program to a catchment population of approximately 1.5M people. The Department provides regional diagnostic imaging and interventional programs and has strong relationships with community hospital partners.
The Department is undergoing academic transformation and is hiring a new faculty position for a radiologist with expertise in Body Imaging.
Position Profile: The successful candidate will be appointed in a full-time limited term Clinical Academic appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in the Department of Medical Imaging at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry. The individual will take an active role in the Citywide Body Imaging Division and must be dedicated to outstanding quality in clinical operations, demonstrate leadership, teaching and/or research abilities. The academic component of this position is predominately located at LHSC (Victoria Hospital campus) and Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry. Victoria Hospital is home to a busy surgical and GI service with over 550 beds, the regional trauma center, and the London Regional Cancer Program (LRCP), One day per week of protected academic time is provided. Preference will be given to candidates who have additional sub-specialty training, and/or have demonstrated research output, and/or have administrative experience.
The successful candidate will join a division comprised of 28 radiologists and will need to demonstrate successful team building skills in addition to the advanced diagnostic skills required for this position. There are excellent established collaborations across all affiliated disciplines with frequent participation in multi-disciplinary rounds and a full complement of diagnostic and image-guided biopsy procedures.
Infrastructure: City wide fleet replacement with state-of-the-art Computed Tomography (six Aquilion ONE 320 Genesis Edition, and one Aquilion Prime), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (three 3.0T, and three 1.5T) and interventional angiography suites (three biplane and three single plane units) in combination with a research interventional suite and strong Industry-Academic partnerships will strengthen the academic mission.
Duties: The successful candidate will be expected to provide a full range of diagnostic and non-vascular interventional services required of a Body Imaging Radiologist including:
- X-ray, Ultrasound, CT and MRI;
- Perform fluoroscopic studies and image-guided procedures, such as percutaneous biopsies;
- Participate in general radiology on-call.
The successful candidate must be interested in pursuing a strong academic career and will be expected to actively participate in the Department of Medical Imaging’s academic, research and education initiatives including teaching and supervision of undergraduate, and postgraduate trainees and fellows.
Qualifications: The successful candidate will hold certification in Diagnostic Radiology with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or international equivalent and will need to meet the current credentialing requirements of LHSC and St. Joseph’s. Candidates must have an MD, or equivalent, and must be eligible for licensure in the province of Ontario. Subspecialty Fellowship training in Body Imaging is required. Additional expertise in obstetrical imaging and/or thoracic imaging will be a distinct advantage. The successful candidate will be a self-starter, team player and be willing to participate in all aspects of academic activities, and imaging including on-call duties as required by the Chair/Chief of the Department.
Compensation Details: Estimated initial total remuneration from all sources, including fee for service and alternative funding plan, will be in the range of $350,000 - $500,000 annually and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
