The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Medicine, Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism in partnership with Alberta Health Services, invites applications for the joint position of Academic Division Director and Zone Clinical Section Head of Endocrinology and Metabolism. The successful candidate will be offered a University of Alberta tenured or tenure track appointment at the rank of Full or Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine.

Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry is one of Canada’s premier academic medical institutions and is recognized among the world’s top 100 medical schools. The Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism in the Department of Medicine is internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions.

The successful candidate will join a group of 18 endocrinologists in a tertiary care facility which serves over 1.5 million people, including the world’s largest islet transplant program, and one of the largest Pituitary Clinics in Canada. The Division has excellent clinical facilities; a Royal College approved resident training program and easy access to dynamic testing and the full range of diagnostic and therapeutic services.

The division’s research collaborations span basic, clinical and community-based research. Current areas of strength include Diabetes, Obesity and Nutrition, Lipid Metabolism, Cardiovascular Disease and Exercise Physiology. Many of these collaborations are established through the Alberta Diabetes Institute, which houses dry and wet labs as well as an 8000 square feet clinical research unit (BodPod, DEXA, Whole Body Calorimeter) and a 1500 square feet exercise lab. The ADI provides a number of core services and administers a range of funding opportunities (pilot grants, studentships, post-doc fellowships).

The Clinical Section Head in Endocrinology and Metabolism is responsible for all clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism services in the Edmonton Zone. This responsibility is generally shared with Facility Section Heads in each Hospital. The Academic Division Director is responsible for the academic mission of the Division, including recruitment, advancement, research and medical education.

The successful candidate will be recognized internationally through their scholarly accomplishments and will provide dynamic and visionary leadership in academic Endocrinology and Metabolism and will have administrative experience in an academic setting. A doctorate degree in Medicine (M.D. or equivalent) and certification in Endocrinology by the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent) eligibility for licensure by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) are required.

Remuneration will be on the Academic Medicine Health Services Plan (AMHSP), which offers a very competitive remuneration package with excellent benefits.
