The Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) is seeking a fellowship-trained Pediatric Anesthesiologist to join our team.

CHEO is a167-bed tertiary care teaching center affiliated with the University of Ottawa.  The Hospital provides pediatric surgical care for Ottawa, western Quebec and Nunavut, serving a population of approximately one million people. We offer services in English and French.  . 

Our Department consists of 19 consultant pediatric anesthesiologists.  We provide tertiary care services for all surgical specialties and provide support to pediatric medicine, medical imaging, the emergency department, critical care and neonatology.  We have a busy sedation service, a pre-anesthesia clinic and both acute and chronic pain services. Our members support the PICU and palliative care teams. We educate residents and fellows in pediatric anesthesia as well as many other learners. Our Department helps lead the management of the perioperative area and the hospital through administrative roles on the Perioperative Executive Team and the CHEO Executive Team. Our members manage daily operations in the hospital through the Anesthesiologist-In-Charge. Opportunities for clinical, educational and lab-based research are available in partnership with the CHEO Research Institute and the University of Ottawa.

Ottawa is a beautiful capital city.  Along with its thriving international technology and business reputation it offers a unique cosmopolitan lifestyle. It hosts numerous festivals and is the home to the National Arts Center, six museums and the National Art Gallery. There are numerous waterways, parklands, golf courses, restaurants and scenic recreational pathways.  In the winter, a 7.6 km-long stretch of the Rideau Canal becomes the world's longest skating rink.  Ski resorts in the Gatineau Hills are an easy half-hour drive from downtown.  For children there are numerous public and private schools educating in both official languages. As well, there are several prestigious universities in town offering education in English and French.

The successful candidate must be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or equivalent in Anesthesiology and be eligible for licensure in Ontario.  The candidate must also have completed a fellowship in Pediatric Anesthesia. Preference will be given to applicants with an academic track record. CHEO strives to represent our community and we are an inclusive Department.
