Locum General Internist One-Year Term

The Department of Medicine, Dalhousie University/Nova Scotia Health Authority seeks applications for a Locum General Internist (one year term with option to renew) with the Division of General Internal Medicine at the QEII Health Sciences Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia. These are combined Hospital/University positions. Academic rank with Dalhousie University will be dependent upon qualifications and experience.

The successful candidate will participate in all aspects of inpatient and outpatient clinical care. Inpatient activities include attending on the Medical Teaching Unit, in the Emergency Dept. and on the inpatient consult service. Candidates will have the opportunity to become involved in ambulatory care that serves a range of patient and system needs including community outreach clinics, medical complications of pregnancy, preoperative risk and frailty, thrombosis, and virtual care/e-consultation. There will also be expected participation in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education. Candidates will have completed a 5-year residency program in General Internal Medicine, and will hold specialty certification in Internal Medicine from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent). They will be eligible for licensure in Nova Scotia. Preference will be given to candidates who have additional experience and expertise in medical education and health systems transformation.

The Division of General Internal Medicine (GIM) is composed of 11 full time General Internists and 4 part time members from Critical Care, the Canadian Armed Forces and Allergy and Immunology. GIM is one of 15 divisions within the Department of Medicine. The GIM group is closely knit and collegial.
