Associate / Full Professor - Director, Novo Nordisk Network for Healthy Populations at the University of Toronto
The University of Toronto seeks applications for the inaugural Director, Novo Nordisk Network for Healthy Populations. Inspired by the one hundredth anniversary of the discovery of insulin, the Network aims to enable the next hundred years of engaged clinical research, leading community-based solutions to prevent the impact of diabetes and other chronic illnesses on individuals and healthcare systems. The Network harnesses a partnership among three of the University of Toronto’s most globally recognized units: Temerty Faculty of Medicine, Dalla Lana School of Public Health, and University of Toronto Mississauga. The successful candidate must be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor at the University of Toronto in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine, Dalla Lana School of Public Health and the University of Toronto Mississauga. The term of appointment is five years, renewable once, following a successful review. The effective start date of appointment is July 1, 2021, or shortly before or after.
Building on the academic strengths of the University and its affiliated hospitals, the Director will work as the Network’s leader, providing the vision for and fostering the development of a program of clinical and community-based research focused on optimizing diabetes prevention and care in the City of Mississauga, with work based at the University of Toronto Mississauga. The Director will leverage the strengths of University partners, and ensure that the Network works with patients and families, policy makers, community organizations, and local health service providers: e.g. Trillium Health Partners. The Director will also monitor and measure performance against clear objectives in clinical outcomes and population health research; ensure that the Network optimally leverages relevant resources; and drive inclusive collaborations with community organizations. The Director will be expected to grow the Network over time; to translate and mobilize knowledge across diverse groups; and to seek opportunities for scaling the Network’s insights across other areas in Ontario, Canada, and around the world.
The successful candidate will be an internationally recognized scientist with an established research program related to diabetes prevention and/or to improving clinical outcomes, as well as a record of excellence in scholarship in this area. The candidate will have a track record of leading major projects; of uniting teams around common goals; of collaborating with health providers to improve healthcare practice; and of addressing the social determinants of health through community engagement.
Applicants must hold an MD degree and be eligible to hold licensure in Ontario with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Applicants must have graduate level training in health services, health outcomes, and/or population health research.
Remuneration will be commensurate with academic rank, qualifications and experience.
The Director will be supported by an endowed chair, which will fund research support, including salary. They will also oversee a number of endowed and expendable trust funds to support additional research chairs, post-doctoral fellowships, undergraduate and graduate scholarships, clinician-scientist trainees, interdisciplinary catalyst grants, and opportunities for community partnerships, outreach, and knowledge translation.
