Neuroradiologist

Department of Medical Imaging, Division of Diagnostic Radiology

Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University

Academic Position: Academic Neuroradiologist

The Department of Medical Imaging, Division of Diagnostic Radiology, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, at Western University, London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph’s Health Care London is seeking a neuroradiologist for full-time clinical academic appointment to Western University. Rank (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor) and appointment status (limited term or continuing) will be determined by experience and qualifications at the time of appointment.

The Department of Medical Imaging at Western University is an integrated city-wide sub-specialty practice across the three Hospital sites: University Hospital (UH) and Victoria Hospital (VH), collectively known as the London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC), and St Joseph’s Health Care London (St. Joseph’s). As the only Academic Health Sciences Centre in the second largest Local Health Integration Network in Ontario, the Department provides multiple regional services to a population of >2M.

With recent enterprise commitment to full diagnostic and interventional (CT, MR, Angiography) fleet-replacement, there are opportunities for an enthusiastic radiologist to contribute to the continued building and advancement of an integrated, multi-disciplinary and collegial Academic Medical Imaging Department in Diagnostic Neuroradiology.

Neuroradiology: Division Head – Dr. Sachin Pandey ([email protected])

The successful candidate will join a city-wide division of 11 neuroradiologists. The division performs the full complement of modern neuroradiology diagnostic and interventional procedures.  In addition to the full spectrum of adult and pediatric diagnostic neuro-imaging (CT, MRI, U/S), the division also provides comprehensive percutaneous spinal intervention and endovascular neuro-intervention.

With new equipment installation: three biplane angiography suites, three 3T and three 1.5T MRI units, five clinical and one research 320 MDCT units and excellent collaborative relationships with our neurosurgical and neurology colleagues, expertise in advanced functional neuro-imaging will be an asset. Prior training, or a desire for on-site training, in spinal percutaneous procedures will be considered beneficial to support the growing neuro-interventional program.

The division has a long history of multi-disciplinary research, with robust established relationships with all relevant clinical neuro-disciplines.  Additionally, there is a long tradition of training residents and fellows, with an uninterrupted record of training sub-specialty fellows of >40 years.  The explicit intent of this hire is to contribute to growing the academic agenda of the neuroradiology division.  To that end, a track-record of teaching and research excellence is a necessary pre-requisite.  Consideration will be given primarily to clinician-investigator/scientist academic role categories as determined by the experience and qualifications of the successful applicant.

Qualifications:  The successful candidates will hold certification in Diagnostic Radiology with the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada or international equivalent and will need to meet the current credentialing requirements of LHSC and St. Joseph’s.  Candidates must have an MD, or equivalent, with a PhD considered an asset.  Candidates must also be eligible for licensure in the province of Ontario. Subspecialty Fellowship training in diagnostic neuroradiology is required, with a preference for ≥2 years of subspecialty training.  The successful candidate will be a self-starter, and function well in a team-based collaborative environment.  The successful candidate will need to be committed to outstanding quality in clinical operations, including patient care, teaching and research.  A minimum of one day of protected research time will be available with additional protected research time for candidates targeting the career path of a clinician investigator/scientist.  Consideration of applicants will include an assessment of clinical experience and research productivity in neuroradiology including expertise in spinal intervention.

Interested candidates are encouraged to contact the Division Head and the Chair-Chief for further details.

Compensation Details: Estimated total remuneration from all sources, including fee for service and alternative funding plan, will be in the range of $280,000 - $420,000 per annum for the first year of employment and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The City:  London, Ontario.  London is Canada’s 11th largest city with a population over 400,000, a catchment area of 2 million people, and is situated in southwestern Ontario between Toronto and Detroit.  The region has a diverse economy and excellent educational opportunities.  It is a safe and diverse city and its numerous parks, trails, recreational, cultural and sporting opportunities make it an attractive place to live.

London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC):  One of Canada’s largest acute-care teaching hospitals, LHSC is dedicated to excellence in patient care, teaching and research. For more than 138 years, LHSC has provided patient care for the people of London, the region, and beyond. Many national and international medical breakthroughs have been pioneered at LHSC, to the benefit of patients locally and around the world.  From a neurologic perspective, the establishment of the world’s first combined department of Clinical Neurosciences as envisioned by pioneers in Neurosurgery and Neurology – Drs Charles Drake and Henry Barnett, is the foundation of these discoveries.  Indeed, this model has now been widely adopted across the world.  With full integration of the neuro-imaging program as an equal partner, our physicians have remained at the forefront of modern diagnostic and therapeutic neuroradiology.

The University:  Western University is a research-intensive university with full-time enrolment of about 34,000 students with a full range of academic and professional programs.  The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry provides an outstanding educational experience within a research-intensive environment where tomorrow's physicians, dentists and health researchers learn to be socially responsible leaders in the advancement of human health.

The Department of Medical Imaging supports and encourages opportunities to engage in imaging related research with the Robarts Research Institute (www.robarts.ca) and Lawson Health Research Institute (https://www.lawsonresearch.ca/), in association with Western University and Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry.

University Imaging Associates (UIA):  As a physician team providing a suite of diagnostic and interventional services in medical imaging, UIA strives for high quality patient-centered care, academic excellence and innovation based on the robust relationships with the London Hospitals and University.  UIA physicians have built enduring clinical collaborations with local and regional partners through collegiality and respect.  Beyond augmenting clinical proficiency across multiple disciplines, we value and have a well-established culture of commitment to teaching, research and administration.
