The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology, in partnership with Alberta Health Services, invites applications for a Hematologist with expertise in benign hematologic disorders, to be based at the University of Alberta Hospital. Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty has been internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions. The University is currently home to more than 38,000 students with more than 15,000 faculty and staff.

The Division of Hematology provides comprehensive care for adult patients with a wide variety of benign and malignant hematologic disorders. It is the primary hematology referral centre for central and northern Alberta and Northwest Territories, with a catchment area of over 2 million people. There is an active, well-established clinical trials program within the Division and ample support is provided to clinical investigators.

The successful candidate will be an MD (or equivalent) with certification in Hematology with the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada, and will be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA). Additional expertise in the care of patients with benign hematologic disorders (bleeding and clotting disorders, hemoglobinopathies, thrombotic microangiopathies and/or rare blood disorders including PNH) and apheresis would be an asset.

Key accountabilities of the hematologist will include, but will not be limited to, providing ambulatory clinical care for patients with a variety of benign hematologic disorders, as well as inpatient hematology attending duties. Candidates will be expected to participate actively in clinical trials and other clinical research activities, as well as quality improvement initiatives. Candidates will also be expected to participate in the education of medical resident trainees and undergraduate students.

The successful candidate will be offered a clinical faculty (non-tenure track) appointment in the Department of Medicine. Remuneration for this position is based on the Academic Medicine & Health Services Program (AMHSP). Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
