Position Profile

We are inviting applications for the position of Vice Dean, Undergraduate Medical Education (UGME). As a member of the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry Vice-Decanal leadership team, the Vice-Dean UGME is the senior faculty officer responsible for the strategy, curriculum, and implementation of the entire spectrum of UGME at Schulich. This includes all aspects of the London and Windsor campuses, the distributed sites, and international UGME activities.  They will be responsible to all matters related to quality assurance and accreditation of the medical school. 

The successful candidate will oversee the Offices of Undergraduate Medical Education (London and Windsor) and lead decision-making in UGME. They will have a clearly defined vision that fits with Western as being a research-intensive university and optimize collaboration amongst medical education units at Schulich Medicine & Dentistry. The Vice Dean UGME will possess a sound understanding of the requirements, guidelines, needs and challenges of every program comprising undergraduate medical education. The incumbent will support each Program decanal member and their teams to allow them to deliver optimum service and support to the students and faculty they serve.

The Vice Dean UGME will work closely with the Director, Medical Education, on the UGME portfolio budget preparation, including issue resolution and fund management pertaining to undergraduate medical education finances.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate should have demonstrated a strong track record of leadership, research, education and clinical care excellence with a proven reputation for effective interpersonal and administrative skills.  They will possess significant demonstrated senior administrative leadership with particular strengths in the areas of engagement, communication, collaboration, quality improvement, service delivery, performance excellence, and program management structures.  They will have a demonstrated record as an established scholar.

They will preferably be a clinician teacher/educator or clinician researcher/scientist and hold, at minimum, an MD or equivalent; be eligible for licensure in the Province of Ontario in accordance with the appropriate licensing body and must be certified, or eligible for certification as a member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or the College of Family Physicians of Canada. Candidates will preferably be at the academic rank of Associate or Full Professor with a track record of sustained scholarship in medical education and have substantial administrative experience in medical education or health leadership.

If the successful candidate is an MD or equivalent, compensation will be commensurate with qualifications, interest and experience and composed primarily of the following sources:  fee for service, alternate funding plan, and academic support.  The successful candidate will be appointed in a continuing (Clinical Academic) appointment at the rank of Professor or Associate Professor in a department at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry.

Compensation Details:  Compensation for this position will be commensurate with qualifications, interest and experience and composed primarily of the following sources:  fee for service, alternate funding plan, and academic support.
