Clinical Academic Faculty Position

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, London Health Sciences Centre and Western University, London Ontario, Canada, is seeking a full time clinical academic position in General Obstetrics & Gynaecology with advanced training in Minimally Invasive Gynaecology and have a special interest in advanced laparoscopic surgical procedures. The position leans heavily towards gynaecology. Additional interest and/or experience in chronic pelvic pain would be an asset.


The successful candidate will hold a full-time Limited Term Academic appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor, or a Continuing Clinical Academic appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, depending upon experience and qualifications at the time of appointment. Candidates must hold an MD or equivalent and be eligible for licensing in the Province of Ontario. Specialist certification in Obstetrics and Gynaecology through the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or equivalent is required. Formal fellowship in Minimally Invasive Gynaecology Surgery is preferred. Training and/or experience in research with an established track record of publications would be an asset. The successful candidate will also have a commitment to and demonstrated aptitude for teaching, and will be expected to teach at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels and to supervise Ob/Gyn resident trainees. Potential to expand training with development of an MIG fellowship would be supported.


Responsibilities will include:
•Active participation in team-based health care;
•Active involvement in teaching, at undergraduate and post graduate levels; and
•At least 30-35% time commitment to research, education and/or administrative activities in the Department, Hospitaland/or the University.

London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC), one of Canada’s largest acute-care teaching hospitals, is dedicated to excellence in patient care, teaching and research. For more than 138 years, LHSC has provided patient care for the people of London, the region, and beyond. The Department of is located at the Victoria campus of LHSC; we comprise 33 full-time academic physicians, 4 basic scientists, 30 postgraduate residents, and 9 fellows. We are responsible for all undergraduate teaching in Ob/Gyn for Western; we share these responsibilities with our Windsor and distributed educational sites. We support many opportunities for research and educational development for faculty and students. The Generalist Division provides comprehensive obstetrical and gynaecologic care. LHSC is a Tertiary Perinatal Centre serving LHIN1, LHIN 2, Sault Ste. Marie, and Thunder Bay, and is the sole obstetrical site for women from the London area with 5,800 births each year. Clinical gynaecologic services are located at London Health Sciences Centre (Victoria Campus) and St. Joseph’s Health Care (SJHC). On call and emergency gynaecology consultation is provided through the general obstetrics & gynaecology call schedule. The generalist team is fully supported by all recognized sub-specialists in obstetrics/gynaecology. Successful candidates will have a keen interest in academic medicine and the ability to collaborate professionally with all other members of the health care team. Compensation for this position will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and will be composed of fee for service, an alternative funding plan and academic salary.

The anticipated start date for this position is July 1, 2021, although an alternate start date may be negotiated.
