Opportunity

The Department of Critical Care, on behalf of Dalhousie University and Nova Scotia Health, invite applications for an opportunity in Halifax, Nova Scotia. We are looking for a full-time (contingent term) Academic Clinician-Scientist, at the Assistant/Associate Professor level, with clinical training and research interest in critical care medicine, to join our dedicated group of 19 Intensivists.

The Department of Critical Care is an integral part of the Faculty of Medicine at Dalhousie University and a leader of secondary, tertiary, and quaternary clinical services in Atlantic Canada. Its mission is to deliver high quality health care, medical education, and research. The department includes 14 Adult and 5 Paediatric Intensivists, with various clinical backgrounds and experiences.

This position is designed to recruit an independent and collaborative Clinician-Scientist to complement and grow the Department of Critical Care’s academic research mandate. The successful candidate will have 50% of their time protected for research. Clinical work will be split between the two adult intensive care units at the QEII Health Sciences Centre of the Nova Scotia Health (20 beds). QEII hospitals provide care to patients from the province of Nova Scotia and is a quaternary referral centre for Atlantic Canada.

Dalhousie University’s strategic research plan includes a healthcare research stream (Healthy People, Healthy Communities, Healthy Populations) and there is the ability to provide access to multi-disciplinary and inter-professional biomedical, clinical and health services research groups within the Department, Faculty of Medicine and the University. There is opportunity for supervision and mentorship of undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Qualifications:

• MD with Specialty recognition and training (FRCPC or equivalent) in Adult Critical Care Medicine
• Eligible for a medical licence with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia
• Hold (or be within 6 month of obtaining) a PhD
• Have a record of academic research achievements as demonstrated by peer reviewed publications
• Have evidence of successful grant writing as Principle investigator / Co-investigator (or with justification for other roles)
