The Department of Family and Community Medicine (DFCM) in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto is inviting applications for the position of Bresver Family Chair in End-of-Life Care and Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID).

The ideal candidate will have certification with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (or equivalent), will possess clinical experience in advance care planning, end-of-life-care and MAID, and must be appointable at the level of Associate Professor or Professor. This is a five-year appointment.

The newly created academic position will cultivate the highest quality education to equip family doctors to support compassionate, appropriate, evidence-informed advance care planning and end-of-life care, including MAID, in line with evolving legislation and patient preferences.

In conjunction with DFCM academic program leads, teaching sites, an advisory committee, relevant research, public health and advisory groups, the Bresver Family Chair will support educational initiatives to advance, normalize and build capacity for advance care planning conversations and end-of-life care.

In recognition of the sensitivities and complexities that healthcare professionals, systems, patients and families face in discussing, accessing and providing the full spectrum of end-of-life care, the Bresver Family Chair will seek broad input on, and support research related to, relevant ethical and health equity issues.
