Medical Microbiologist, Regular Full-time position

The Division of Medical Microbiology and Infection Control, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Vancouver General Hospital (Vancouver Acute/Vancouver Coastal), is seeking a Medical Microbiologist to fill a regular full-time position.  This position includes responsibilities in both the regional diagnostic medical microbiology laboratory and the regional infection prevention and control program.

Vancouver General Hospital is a large teaching hospital affiliated with the University of British Columbia.  The Microbiology Laboratory at VGH is the reference centre for the Vancouver Coastal Health Regional Microbiology Laboratory, a network of 9 laboratories. At VGH, approximately 450,000 specimens are processed annually, providing diagnostic procedures in general bacteriology, mycobacteriology, mycology, virology and parasitology using both conventional and molecular-based diagnostic techniques. The successful candidate will be a team player, participating fully in both the regional infection prevention and control program and in the regional diagnostic medical microbiology laboratory, including laboratory and clinical consultations in all areas relating to the diagnosis, management, and prevention of infections.  Experience and/or additional education in molecular techniques, epidemiology, environmental microbiology and infection prevention and control would best complement and fulfill the needs of the Division.

The successful candidate must meet the requirements of the university to obtain a faculty appointment within the UBC Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine commensurate with qualifications and experience. The candidate must be certified by the Royal College of Physician and Surgeon of Canada in Medical Microbiology, or equivalent, and be eligible for licensure in British Columbia.

He or she will be expected to participate in university departmental teaching programs, including undergraduate and graduate student teaching as well as supervision of residents and fellows. He or she will also participate in administrative activities and be engaged in other activities such as university and hospital committees, and collaborative research.

Salary and hospital rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.  The anticipated start date of this position is on or after July 1st 2021.
