Clinic Details — Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital:

The largest diagnostic and acute care hospital in the West Kootenays, the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital (KBRH) is a 75-bed full service regional hospital serving 80,000 people in the Kootenay Boundary region. KBRH offers core specialist physician services including 24-hour Emergency and Trauma Services, Level 2 Laboratory, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Acute and Obstetrical Care, Orthopedics, Plastics, Urology, Ophthalmology, Psychiatry, Chemotherapy and advanced diagnostic services. KBRH is the regional base for the 24-hour High Acuity Response Team (HART) consisting of dedicated critical care transport nurses, and as required, respiratory therapists, who respond to support rural and remote clinicians in the transport and management of critically ill and injured patients. Transport is supported by BC Ambulance Services (BCAS) for major medical care with transfer to Kelowna that is 313 kilometers from Trail.

In the Hospitalist position, you will be part of our talented group of 11 dedicated and collegial professionals providing the most up to date, comprehensive, quality patient centered care. Our team of hospitalists’ work in the acute inpatient medicine setting and function in a MRP (most responsible physician) role for complex medical and co-management of surgical patients, as well as palliative care. Working throughout the hospital, except in the ICU, we enjoy excellent support from our specialist and ICU colleagues. Working 8 hours a day we see an average of 12-16 inpatients per shift. Participation in after-hours call is mandatory.

Our program is involved with the UBC-Okanagan medical undergraduate program, and the family medicine residency program, which both include rotations with the Hospitalist team. Other teaching opportunities are available on site (i.e. tutoring, clinical teaching) if desired on your off-days. Committee and quality improvement work is optional and encouraged.

Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in Medicine
  • Certificant of College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification (ACLS)
  • Eligible for licensure with CPSBC
  • Coverage with the Canadian Medical Protective Association is mandatory

Call Schedule:

  • Hours of work: Full time, 8 hours a day (~22 weeks per year) (part-time optional)
  • On call requirements: Mandatory

Compensation:

  • Payment Structure: Clinical Services Contract
  • Estimated Gross Income: Range $240,000-$260,000 (for full-time), plus MOCAP level 2; BC hourly rate for hospitalists is currently $159.45

RSA Incentives :

  • Recruitment bonus: $15,000 (based on full-time)
  • Relocation:$9,000-$15,000 based on move location (with eligible receipts)
  • Fee Premium: 11.20%
  • Annual retention fee: $12,892.80
  • CME funding: Up to 2 years $440; In 3rd & 4th year $2,640; after 4 years $4,840
