Chair/Chief, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine
The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry (Schulich Medicine) at Western University (Western), London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) and St. Joseph’s Health Care London (St. Joseph’s) are seeking applications for a Chair/Chief in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. In service of patients, the successful candidate will have a vision to expand the strengths of integrated clinical, teaching and research programs aligned with the vision of Schulich Medicine, LHSC and St Joseph’s and the hospitals’ research joint venture, Lawson Health Research Institute (LHRI)
The successful candidate must be an accomplished clinician with an MD or equivalent degree, must have certification in Anatomical or General Pathology or related laboratory specialty from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent), and must be eligible for licensure in Ontario. Academic rank, compensation, and contractual arrangements will be commensurate with qualifications, experience and the provisions set out in the Laboratory Medicine Funding Framework Agreement (LMFFA).Through visionary and inspirational leadership, they will develop opportunities for growth, while navigating the complexities of research and clinical demands in an academic healthcare system. They should have a clear understanding of the Canadian health care and laboratory system, while having the ability to collaborate and develop regional relationships beyond LHSC and St. Joseph’s to ensure quality for all hospital laboratories in the region. The candidate will hold a full-time continuing Clinical Academic appointment in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the rank of Associate or Full Professor.
The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine offers Undergraduate Pathology courses and training to medical students, dental students, nursing students, and undergraduate students in the basic medical sciences, science and health sciences. Modules leading to an Honours Specialization in Pathology or a Major in Pathology are offered through the BMSc program. The Department also offers the undergraduate Honours Specialization program in One Health, which is a first of its kind integrated effort across multiple disciplines working locally, nationally and globally to attain optimal health for humans, animals, and the environment. At the graduate level, we offer a research-based MSc and PhD program in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine (including One Health), a MCISc Pathologists’ Assistant program and a Graduate Diploma in Pathology.
The Department of Pathology has a long history of recognized excellence in diagnostic service, teaching, research and administrative leadership. Department members teach medical, dental and health sciences students at the undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate levels, and are engaged in many different areas of basic, clinical and translational research. The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine includes anatomical pathologists, neuropathologists, oral pathologists, medical microbiologists, hematologists, medical biochemists basic scientists, molecular geneticists, biochemical geneticists and cytogeneticists. Members of the Department provide diagnostic pathology and laboratory medicine services for the clinical campuses of LHSC and St. Joseph’s and referred in work from outside the local health network. LHSC is the site of the Regional Forensic Pathology Unit for Southwestern Ontario.
