Clinic Details — Penticton Regional Hospital:

The Penticton Regional Hospital (PRH) is a 155-bed Acute Care facility in the Okanagan Health Service Area and responsible for providing core medical and surgical specialty services to surrounding population of approximately 90,000 people.

PRH offers 24-hour Emergency and Trauma Services, Acute Services, Ambulatory and Out-patient Clinics, and Diagnostic/Paramedical Services.

As a regional facility and secondary referral centre for the South Okanagan and Similkameen Valley, you will be joining an excellent complement of medical and surgical specialists. Excellent radiology availability with on site Computed Tomography (CT) and part time Medical Resonance Imaging (MRI). PRH has a seven-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

PRH also serves as the referral base for hematology/transfusion medicine for the smaller local hospitals in Oliver and Princeton.

In April 2019 PRH opened phase one of its new, state of the art Patient Care Tower. The Patient Care Tower includes a brand new ambulatory care centre, surgical services center, 84 medical/surgical inpatients beds in single patient rooms, a new medical device reprocessing unit and space for the UBC Faculty of Medicine Program. Phase two is now underway and will involve the renovation in the current hospital to allow the expansion of the emergency department four times its current size.

Exceptional part time opportunity for a Family Practice Physician with additional experience and training in addiction medicine to join the mental health team at Penticton Regional Hospital (PRH). The primary focus of this position will support the Emergency Department and Inpatient units throughout Penticton Regional Hospital (PRH) in assessments, managing withdrawal and treatment related to substance use. You would work closely with the Substance Use connections team within the hospital to treat and support patients presenting with substance use disorder.

The consultation service scope includes the follow:• Alcohol Use Disorder• Opioid Use Disorder• Polysubstance Use Disorder• Concurrent Disorder• Opioid Agonist Therapy• Substance use withdrawal management• Work with the Substance Use Connections team to support discharge planning. PRH is also a teaching hospital academically affiliated with the University of British Columbia’s Southern Medical Program.

Qualifications:

  • Eligible for The College of Family Physicians of Canada Cert. (CCFP)
  • Doctorate in Medicine
  • Canadian Medical Protective Association coverage is mandatory
  • BCCSU Provincial Opioid Addiction Treatment Support Program (or equivalent)
  • Preference given to someone with ISAM (International Society of Addiction) certification and/or certificate of added competence in addiction medicine from the College of Family Physicians
  • Current College of Physicians of BC (CPSBC) License - Full
