Are you ready for a change in pace from your typical practice? Or are you a new GP Anesthetist looking for a supportive team? Have you always wanted to practice in the North?
Permanent and locum opportunities are currently available!
Why the Northwest Territories?
Located above the 60th parallel, the Northwest Territories awaits with seemingly endless lakes and unmatched vistas. The opportunities available in our communities are perfect for the outdoor enthusiast looking for adventure, a healthy work/life balance, and an escape from the hustle of the big city.
The Beaufort-Delta Region is home to the northern-most communities in the Northwest Territories. Famous for wildlife sightings including polar bears, reindeer, muskoxen, and caribou, this unique region above the tree line is simply breathtaking. Popular activities include taking a dip in the Arctic Ocean and exploring the unique landscape of the pingos. With most communities in this region accessible by road, there is a full range of essential services.
“I think one thing that is just amazing is the cultural experience people will have when they’re here. You would have an incredible time… and it would be one of the best experiences in your medical career to come and be exposed to remote medicine in the Arctic. The amount of opportunities are endless.” Dr. Stephanie Cairns, Inuvik
About the Work
The successful incumbent will be working in the Inuvik Regional Hospital – the northernmost hospital with an OR on the continent. It is a 48-bed facility, including long-term care. The 14-bed acute care unit includes 2 labour and delivery rooms. Family Physicians reside in Inuvik and are part of a primary community care team, providing services in seven or more community health centers through scheduled travel, telephone, and Telehealth consultation.
Your anesthetic skills will be active with sedations for our high-caliber endoscopy program, general anesthetics for weekly pediatric dental cases, a variety of elective procedures from cesarean sections to visiting specialist cases, and epidurals. Inuvik’s full time complement includes ESS Physicians, FP-Anesthetists, and General Practitioners. We host a variety of visiting specialists from Yellowknife and Edmonton, including Obstetrics and Gynecology, Orthopedic Surgery, General Surgery, ENT, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, and others.
