Research Implementation Scientist

 

The Department of Medicine (DoM) at Dalhousie University/Nova Scotia Health in Halifax, Nova Scotia, seeks applications for a full time PhD Research Implementation Scientist, based at the QEII Health Sciences Centre site. The DoM is comprised of 15 medical divisions, with a diverse interest in research. The Department strives for excellence in clinical care, research, and teaching.

The primary focus of the DoM Implementation Scientist position will be to integrate with multiple research teams in the Department on implementation and evaluation of systems to improve health services delivery and outcomes, and to develop collaborative research to enhance research productivity across the Department as a co-investigator on grants and co-author on academic papers, across a variety of disciplines. The position will be expected to assist with mentoring trainees (junior researchers, residents, and students) in the course of these collaborations. The individual may devote up to 20% of time to their own research program, engaging DoM members in collaborations as appropriate.

This dynamic scientist with excellent interpersonal skills must be able to engage in local, national and international collaborative multi-centre and interdisciplinary research activities with DoM members across multiple divisions. They must demonstrate evidence of outstanding research achievements, excellence in project development, maintenance of successful partnerships and experience in the development of multi-disciplinary research.

The Implementation Scientist will have an appointment within the DoM at the Assistant or Associate Professor Level, dependent upon qualifications and experience. This position is a combined Hospital/University five-year limited-term (renewable) position, provided the incumbent continues to show acceptable levels of research activity as assessed by regular reviews of productivity and impact. Candidates must hold a PhD in an area relevant to clinical health research. Candidates are expected to have a background in systems and implementation science, translational research, and/or quality evaluation science. Prior research experience with Internal Medicine (and subspecialties) and experience with Nova Scotia Health is an asset, but not a requirement.
