National Director of Public Health - Health Service Executive

Ireland’s Public Health Service is embarking on a programme of strategic structural reform to implement an enhanced, consultant-delivered model of service delivery aligned to international best practice. The new model will radically change the governance and operating structure within the Health Service Executive (HSE) Public Health function, establish strong clinical leadership across each of the domains of Public Health practice, and strategically align the service to contribute effectively to major service design, policy implementation, reduction in inequalities and improvements in health.

The National Director of Public Health will report to the HSE’s Chief Clinical Officer and will be a system leader with responsibility for protecting and improving the health of the Irish population. The post holder will provide strategic and clinical leadership to modernise, enhance and reform the delivery of Public Health services and develop a shared vision and strategy for the function. This is the first post of a significant recruitment drive for Consultants in Public Health Medicine to be phased over the next 2 years.
